Why I’ll never be a Supreme Court justice, AKA my position on abortion

I believe in a women’s right to choose, but I also believe that there are too many abortions (over 1 million, 24% of all pregnancies) performed each year. We as Democrats need to support Roe V. Wade AND work on curving the number of abortions each year.

I propose Democrat’s develop the following programs and legislation. There may be more to come…

1.    Safe sex and abstinence.

2.    Write legislation to ban partial birth abortions – with exceptions for the health of the mother. This not only puts Democrats (in my opinion) on the right side of the issue, but also puts Republicans on the defensive.

3.    Reach out, support and work to change the socio-economic positions of those most likely to have an abortion.

The real issue is not whether abortion is legal or illegal – women will have them either way. The real issue we should all be working on is how to solve the socio-economic conditions that lead to most abortions.

So how do we solve this problem? That will be the subject of a future post.
